Handball
Overview
- A team of seven players compete for points by using their hands to throw a ball into the goal on the other team’s court.
- The game is composed of two 30-minute halves for a total of 60 minutes.
Features as deaf sport
Same international regulations as hearing sport are applied to deaf sport.
With deaf handball, instead of using flashlights and flags like in other deaf sports, the referee uses hand gestures to signal the players in the same way they do for hearing athletes.
Spectators can therefore perceive no difference compared to watching a game played by hearing athletes, but will no doubt be impressed by the explosive prowess with which deaf athletes take on their opponents, relying not on their ears but on their broad visual awareness.
At the TOKYO 2025 DEAFLYMPICS, we consider ways to ensure athlete to be concentrated on competition.
