Shooting
Competition Introduction
A sport using rifles or pistols to shoot at targets, competing for accuracy
Basic Rules
Shoot at fixed targets aiming for the centre, with scores higher the closer to centre. Events are divided by distance to target, type of gun firearm used, and shooting position.
Event Characteristics
Air Rifle
The most difficult event for firearm and body control due to the unstable standing position.
Rifle Prone
High scores result from the stable prone position, requiring greater precision.
Rifle 3 Positions
Balanced performance across all positions is necessary, requiring firearm adjustment for each position, time allocation, and sustained concentration.
Air Pistol
An event requiring sustained concentration and accurate aiming and firing.
Pistol
Competition includes precision stage (first half) and rapid fire stage (second half), requiring balance between these different shooting styles.
Rapid Fire
Shooting 5 consecutive shots in 4-6 seconds means high scores if timing aligns, but slight deviation causes point loss - scores are decided in an instant, making it unmissable.
Unique Aspects of Deaf Sports
The difference lies in signals to athletes for “start” and “stop”. Since these cannot be communicated by sound, visual methods using monitors are necessary.
