Overview

  • The sport was promoted globally as Korea’s national sport.
  • Deaflympics events include sparring called Kyorugi as well as Poomsae (form), which is not included in the Olympics.
Kyorigui(Kumite)
  • This is a highly sportive full-contact martial arts event that is like a combination of karate and kickboxing, with particular emphasis on kicking techniques.
  • Predetermined points are awarded for different techniques, with the winner being the athlete who earns the most points.
Poomsae(kata)
  • This is composed of a combination of various defensive and offensive techniques, with athletes performing along a designated line of progression as they move in all directions.
  • Points are given mainly in the two categories of accuracy and presentation, with ranking determined by the total number of points won.

Features as deaf sport

Same international regulations as hearing sport are applied to deaf sport.
The difference lies in how players are informed of the start and end of the competition. Since this cannot be done by sound, they are kept informed by the use of lights and other such means to satisfy the need to be visually signalled.

At the TOKYO 2025 DEAFLYMPICS, we consider ways to ensure athlete to be concentrated on competition.
